About Microsoft

Microsoft enables digital transformation for the era of an intelligent cloud and an intelligent edge. Its mission is to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more.

Microsoft signed the Armed Forces Covenant in June 2018. As Gold award winners of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, Microsoft is committed to advocating for military inclusion, growing and developing leaders in the community, addressing the concerns and needs of veterans, reservists, spouses, cadet force adult volunteers (CFAVs) and other members of the Armed Forces community

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Community

With around 150 veterans already working in the UK, Microsoft understands the talent armed forces personnel can bring. As a Gold Award holder of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, Microsoft is committed to supporting veterans. It offers free training and certification in Microsoft technologies to help service leavers gain relevant skills.

Microsoft works with organisations like the Career Transition Partnership to attract veterans and holds ‘Military to Microsoft’ events for networking and coaching opportunities. Internally, managers are briefed on the benefits of hiring veterans across all areas of the business.

Microsoft values align well with military values like integrity and accountability, enabling an easier transition. All roles are open to veterans and service leavers, who work in diverse positions across the company. The typical salary range is £42,000+.

Microsoft promotes a "growth mindset" culture that values perseverance and continuous learning over notions of fixed ability levels. This open-minded perspective encourages veterans to continually develop.

Support for reservists includes 10 days additional paid leave for commitments and 6 months guaranteed continuity of employment if mobilised. Reservists accrue rights to service-related company sick pay and untaken leave. Spouses receive flexible working.

The Military at Microsoft employee resource group allows veterans, reservists and cadet volunteers to participate in activities like fundraising, Remembrance events and military speaker engagements.

In summary, Microsoft supports veterans through formal partnerships, tailored recruitment initiatives, aligned values, reservist policies, and its dedicated Military at Microsoft network. This demonstrates Microsoft's commitment to enabling veterans to achieve their full potential.
