Description for Internal Candidates
The Home Delivery Driver is responsible for transporting furniture products from warehouses or distribution centres to customers' residences.
Working 45 hours per week; Tuesday - Saturday
The Home Delivery Driver plays a crucial role in ensuring customer satisfaction by delivering items safely and providing exceptional service. With their attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to handle heavy items, they contribute to the overall success of our customers and uphold quality standards in the delivery process.
Duties and responsibilities
- Perform daily vehicle walk round checks, including checking fluid levels, tyre pressures, and ensuring overall vehicle roadworthiness.
- Comply with tachograph rules and regulations governing driving hours, rest breaks, and working time directives to ensure road safety and driver well-being.
- Maintain compliance with vehicle weight limits, vehicle dimensions, and other legal requirements specified by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and other regulatory bodies.
- Maintain awareness of road conditions, weather forecasts, and potential hazards to ensure the safety of oneself and other road users.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or near misses to the transport office and/or company management promptly.
- Safely load (when required) and unload goods onto and from the vehicle, ensuring proper distribution of weight and securing the cargo to prevent shifting during transit.
- Ensure the security of the vehicle and its contents, including when parked, by using locks, alarms, or other security measures as required.
- Use equipment such as tail lifts, skates, and sack barrows as necessary to facilitate the loading, unloading and transportation of goods process.
- Plan delivery routes using GPS or maps to optimize efficiency and ensure on-time deliveries.
- Follow traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies while operating the delivery vehicle.
- Communicate effectively with transport managers, customer service, and other team members to provide updates on delivery progress, delays, or issues encountered during transit.
- Proactively identifying and resolving issues that may arise during deliveries, such as incorrect addresses, damaged goods, or customer dissatisfaction.
- Greet customers upon arrival, confirm delivery details, and coordinate the placement of items within the home.
- Interact professionally and courteously with customers, during the delivery and collection process.
- Remain patient and courteous when dealing with customers, especially during stressful or challenging situations.
- Pay close attention to detail when handling deliveries, verifying delivery addresses, and ensuring accuracy in documentation.
- Check orders for completeness and accuracy before delivery to avoid errors.
- Ability to provide customers with relevant information and assistance regarding the delivered items.
- Handle furniture items with caution to prevent damage during transit and ensure they are delivered in the same condition as when they left the warehouse.
- Maintain accurate delivery records, obtain customer signatures for proof of delivery, and document any delivery exceptions or issues encountered.
- Resolve delivery-related problems, such as navigating tight spaces, moving heavy items through doorways, or addressing customer concerns about damaged items.
- Valid and in date LGV, HGV Class 2 (Cat C) licence
- Valid Digital Tachograph card
- An up-to-date Driver Qualification Card (Driver CPC)
- A good understanding of Drivers hours, legislation, and WTD
- No more than 6 points endorsed on your driving licence.
- A DBS is required in which the company will reimburse the cost
