Atkins is a global design, engineering and project management consultancy leading complex, critical projects worldwide. With 250 veterans among its talented UK staff, Atkins values the skills and experience of veterans and the wider Armed Forces community.
As an early Armed Forces Covenant signatory and Gold Award winner from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, Atkins has an unmatched record of military support. In 2022 Atkins won Reservist of the Year at the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards.
The Partnering with the Armed Forces (PwAF) program engages service leavers and veterans through extensive outreach with CTP, BuildForce, Forces Employment Charity, Forces Families Jobs, REME Association, White Ensign Association and Recruit for Spouses. PwAF runs virtual career fairs, Military Insight Days, mentoring and ongoing contact during recruitment.
Atkins evaluates veterans’ non-traditional experiences with an open mind, seeing their potential. New hires get a buddy, onboarding and induction. Veterans offer leadership, problem solving, teamwork and technical skills, bringing invaluable diversity of thought. Roles suiting their qualifications include engineering, consulting, project management and client relations.
With over 1000 vacancies at various levels, salaries depend on the role and experience. Discussions ensure roles match veterans’ skills and expectations. Flexible working options support work-life balance. Reservists get 10 extra leave days to meet training commitments and are routinely deployed.
Veterans can thrive through Atkins’ strong development culture and ELC support. PwAF assists with accessing veteran health services and benefits. Atkins aims to hire more military spouses too. With its own team, budget and Yammer group, PwAF is sponsored by senior leaders and expands Atkins’ military inclusion.
PwAF helps veterans transition to rewarding second careers where their unique capabilities make a real impact on Atkins’ global projects. The program exemplifies Atkins’ commitment to valuing and supporting the Armed Forces.
