About BT Group
One of the world’s leading communications services companies, and is the largest provider of fixed-line, broadband and mobile services in the UK, also providing subscription television and IT services.
Our commitment to the Armed Forces Community
BT Group holds the MOD's Gold Award for its commitments to the Armed Forces community. Over the last five years, it has actively recruited more than 2,000 veterans, largely into technical roles at Openreach. In total, over 4,000 veterans work across BT and Openreach. Hundreds of jobs are advertised each year via the CTP.
Veterans are sought after because military skills like problem-solving, performing under pressure and fast learning match BT's needs. In 2010, BT's Transition Force programme began providing mentoring to support veterans entering civilian work. Workshops offer CV and interview advice, job insights and detail on BT and Openreach careers.
BT has over 2,000 members in its Armed Forces network, including veterans, reservists and families. This provides informal support for new joiners and through veterans' BT careers. Membership is open to anyone interested in the forces.
As well as recruitment and the network, BT assists veterans through peer support and mental health training. It helps military spouses relocating when partners deploy. Veterans' achievements are formally recognised, including nominations for sector awards.
BT develops veterans' careers through mentoring, work experience and applying military skills to new areas. Veterans are encouraged to undertake senior leadership development. BT supports forces charities with expertise and resources for technology projects. Employees can volunteer via additional leave.
