Description
Are you a service leaver or veteran looking to embark on a rewarding career outdoors? HighGround's Rural Weeks are your gateway to a new and exciting future.
Our fully funded Residential Rural Weeks are designed to help you transition from the military to a fulfilling life in the great outdoors. We understand the unique skills and experiences you bring to the table, and we're here to guide you every step of the way.
What to Expect During Rural Week:
-
Expert Insights: You'll spend five days at an agricultural college, currently Bicton College in Devon, where experienced staff and outside presenters will introduce you to various sectors within the land-based industry. They'll share valuable information about career opportunities and the training required.
-
Field Visits: Get hands-on experience with visits to dairy farms, smallholdings, farm shops, golf courses, RSPB rangers, and more. You'll gain insights, make connections, and learn about the sector from those who know it best.
-
Networking: Connect with ex-military individuals who have successfully transitioned into the land-based sector. They'll share their experiences, contacts, and valuable advice.
-
Self-Employment Focus: Fridays are dedicated to exploring self-employment opportunities and creating a personalized plan for your journey ahead.
What Happens After Rural Week:
Our dedicated Careers Manager will work closely with you to create a tailored plan to help you achieve your land-based employment or self-employment goals. This may include:
- Arranging work placements.
- Advising on specific courses and funding options.
- Connecting you with partner organizations for additional support.
- Addressing any other barriers you may face in your transition.
