Description
Discover if you qualify for a free NHS vision test or an optical voucher to reduce glasses or contact lens expenses. If you aren't eligible for NHS-funded tests or vouchers, you'll have to cover the costs yourself.
Free NHS Eye Tests: You're entitled to a free NHS sight test if you're under 16, 16-18 and in full-time education, 60 or older, registered as partially sighted or blind, diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma, 40 or older with a family history of glaucoma, at risk of glaucoma as advised by an eye doctor, a prisoner on leave, or eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher.
NHS Optical Vouchers: You're entitled to an optical voucher if you're under 18 and in full-time education, a prisoner on leave, or eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher. You may also qualify if you or your partner receive specific benefits or have a tax credit exemption certificate.
NHS Complex Lens Vouchers: These are available for lenses with high dioptres or prism-controlled bifocal lenses. They contribute towards the cost, and eligibility is based on clinical criteria.
Mobile Sight Test: If eligible for a free NHS sight test, you may receive a mobile test at home, in a residential or care home, or at a day center if you can't visit an optician due to illness or disability.
Claiming Refunds: You can claim refunds for sight test fees or the cost of glasses or lenses if you meet the eligibility criteria. Download the HC5(O) refund form from the NHS Business Services Authority and follow the instructions.
Lost or Damaged Glasses/Lenses: You may be considered for a refund if your glasses or lenses are lost or damaged, but you must be eligible for a voucher.
