Description
Funeral Expenses Payments are available for those with low incomes arranging funerals. These payments can be obtained from the Social Fund, with potential repayment from the deceased's estate. Eligibility requires being responsible for the funeral, receiving certain benefits or tax credits, adhering to relationship rules with the deceased, timely claims, and fulfilling location criteria for the funeral. Benefits and tax credits that may make you eligible include Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance, and more. You may also be eligible with Support for Mortgage Interest loan payments.
You must be a partner, close relative, or close friend of the deceased, or the parent of a stillborn baby or a deceased child under certain conditions. Claims must be made within six months of the funeral, and the funeral typically should occur in the UK or under specific circumstances in the Republic of Ireland.
Certain individuals are not eligible, including those with a deceased partner, children of the deceased who don't receive qualifying benefits, and others. The payment can help cover burial and cremation fees, funeral expenses, travel, and related documents. Repayment might be required from the deceased's estate, and other financial resources will be considered when calculating the payment. Applications can be made by phone or by downloading a form, with an appeals process available if needed.
