Description
Home to Duty Travel is a program designed for Service personnel to assist with the cost of their daily commute from home to their place of duty. The Ministry of Defence (MOD) contributes towards the commute cost, covering expenses beyond the first 3 miles for those in service-provided accommodation and the first 9 miles for those in private accommodation, which is known as the 'personal contribution.' The amount of contribution varies based on distance traveled, frequency of work-related travel, and the mode of transportation (car, bike, or public transport). You can find the specific rates in JSP 752 chapter 3.
You cannot use this benefit if you already receive the Travel for Operational Stand Down allowance.
There are two types of claims: HDT (Auto) for those who travel an average of 18 days per month to work, and HDT Manual for those who travel less than 15 journeys per month or use a combination of public and private transport. If you live in private accommodation, you need to provide proof of residence when you first claim and every 12 months thereafter.
The provided calculator helps determine the monthly allowance you could receive for Home to Duty travel based on your accommodation type, distance from duty station, and transport mode. It assumes you are a Regular or FTRS (FC) traveling an average of 18 days per month. The source for rates is JSP Chapter 7, section 0325.
