Description
We put students from armed forces and veteran families across Scotland first. we're here, every step of the way, to help young people realise their potential and thrive at college or university. We can support students, from serving, reservist and veteran families who have enrolled in college and university courses across the United Kingdom in several ways: Living & transport costs We understand young people can face financial barriers to completing a college or university course. That’s why we provide financial assistance to cover monthly living and transportation costs to reduce stress and help young people focus on their studies. Digital equipment We know the way colleges and universities deliver courses is evolving. That’s why we provide financial support to help young people purchase digital equipment and resources to enhance their student experience, via blended learning. Meeting specific needs We appreciate young people may require help to cover more specific, personal needs too. we're very friendly; so young people, family members or a friend can get in touch with Forces Children Scotland to discuss how we can help with specific needs. Do you have something else in mind? No problem at all – let’s have a chat!
About Forces Children Scotland
Supporting children and young people from armed forces and veteran families across Scotland
Our charity was founded in 1815, just four days before the Battle of Waterloo. Today, we deliver a broad range of work to support over 13,000 children and young people from armed forces communities. As a strengths-based and children's rights-focused organisation, we are committed to working directly with this community, and wider partners to co-produce our projects, services, and campaigns.
We strive to achieve our vision of making Scotland a place where all children & young people from armed forces communities can feel heard, understood, and empowered to overcome unique challenges. We want them to dream big and pursue positive futures.
We work with this community to co-produce projects, services, and campaigns
We directly with children and young people through our ‘Combined|Force’ methodology. Co-producing our projects, services, and campaigns promotes their human rights and proves highly effective in fostering a sense of ownership, empowerment, and confidence amongst children and young people. They feel listened to and know that their contributions are valued to deliver innovative, relevant, tailored, and effective outputs to meet unique support needs. Children and young people tell us that it has helped them to develop a stronger affinity with our charity, as well as develop valuable transferrable skills, including problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork that have strengthened future opportunities through personal statements and CVs.
