Eligible applicants will include - Individuals who previously qualified as eligible for a chief police officer appointment by virtue of successfully completing the senior police national assessment centre (senior PNAC) and the strategic command course (SCC) will be eligible for substantive appointment to a chief police officer role, Police officers who have successfully completed the PLP - stage 5 (executive leaders) as part of cohorts 1 and 2 will be eligible for substantive appointment to a chief police officer role - note that cohort 2 would need to be appointed temporarily until successful completion of the programme, Police officers who have demonstrated the baseline standard on the PLP - stage 5 (executive leaders) development centre and successfully completed cohort 3 of the PLP - stage 5 (executive leaders) will also be eligible for substantive appointment to a chief police officer role. - note that would need to be appointed temporarily and cohort 3 not yet started programme , Police officers who have demonstrated the baseline standard on the PLP - stage 5 (executive leaders) development centre can be appointed into chief police officer roles on a temporary basis. A police officer who is appointed temporarily into a chief police officer role must commence the PLP - stage 5 (executive leaders) within 12 months of temporary appointment or at the next available opportunity if not already on the programme. On successful completion of the programme, they can be substantively appointed with no further appointment process, assuming they were originally selected in accordance with this guidance, via an open and competitive recruitment process that was underpinned by the principles of merit, fairness and openness.

As part of this process, we are running a Familiarisation Day at Hutton Headquarters on Monday 13th January 2025. This is for both internal and external candidates and is a great opportunity to meet the Chief Officer Team and Lancashire Constabulary Staff, to see how the force operates and to find out more about our ACC portfolios. Internal applicants must gain approval from Deputy Chief Constable Sam Mackenzie on their suitability to apply for promotion to the rank of ACC. Please find the suitability form attached above. Once signed by the DCC, this must be returned to Promotions@lancashire.police.uk, prior to applying.
All submitted applications will be shortlisted on Friday 24th January 2024. Those successful following the paper sift will be invited to undertake an internal and external Stakeholder Panel on Monday 10th February 2025, and an interview exercise at Hutton Headquarters on either Tuesday 11th or Wednesday 12th February 2025.
Candidates will be assessed against level 3 2024 Senior Leader / Executive Competency Values Framework (CVF) throughout this process (application form and interview).
